Westmill offers families the chance to become part of a beautiful evolving woodland and meadow site. Time stands still here. Funerals can be small, intimate affairs lasting less than half an hour at graveside or involve hundreds of people and last all afternoon. It’s up to you. Whatever the occasion Westmill provides a place of peace and a sense of comfort that makes people want to come back and experience the changing seasons here.
The burial ground is part of our organic farm, with other activities both environmental, creative and charitable, happening around it. Many families enjoy knowing that their family member is becoming part of a wider dynamic family of projects at Westmill. Others simply come for the uplifting views of the Downs or because the person who died loved nature and being outside.
We believe in staying in touch with our families knowing that grief can be a very lonely journey. This is why we set up our Family and Friends Group to whom we send out our bi-annual newsletters and invitations to events that we run through the year at Westmill. Some people never choose to come along, others come every time, some come in the first few years and then don’t feel the need. Our families tell us that it can be an immensely comforting thing to be able to contribute to the life and future development of the burial ground, work together on the site, attend a memorial gathering and meet others who all understand what it is to be bereaved.
